Vacature: PhD Onderzoeker rond sportfraude

Binnen de onderzoeksgroep Sportmanagement (Vakgroep Bewegings- en Sportwetenschappen) zijn we op zoek naar een voltijdse doctoraatsstudent voor een onderzoeksproject rond sportfraude. De onderzoeker zal verder bouwen op de resultaten van het PrOFS-project, dat zich richtte op de preventie van fraude in de sport.

Vacancy: PhD Fellow – Sports Fraud Project

Investigating governance and management initiatives to prevent and combat match-fixing


The Ghent University Sport Management Research Group is recruiting one full-time doctoral fellow (PhD researcher) to work on a research project focusing on sports fraud. The project builds further on the outcomes of the PrOFS project, which investigated fraud prevention in sport.


Project Context

The successful candidate will conduct research on match-fixing and the governance and management initiatives aimed at preventing and combating fraud in sport. The project focuses on understanding how sport organizations can better detect, prevent, and manage fraudulent practices within the sports ecosystem.


Under the supervision of Prof. Annick Willem and Prof. Bram Constandt, the selected candidate will carry out research within the Department of Movement and Sports Sciences at Ghent University. The research will contribute to the growing academic and societal debate on integrity and governance in sport management.


Job Profile and Requirements

We are looking for a motivated team player with strong analytical and communication skills who is eager to conduct four years of research in a dynamic academic environment.


  • Education: Master’s degree in a relevant social sciences or humanities domain (e.g., psychology, criminology, communication sciences, economics, business, or sport management sciences). Master's students graduating in 2026 are encouraged to apply.

  • Skills: Proven methodological research competencies (e.g., data collection, qualitative surveys, interviews, focus groups, experimental research), ability to work independently, and strong analytical skills.

  • Language: Fluency in English (speaking and writing) is required. Fluency in Dutch is considered advantageous for field research activities.



Offer and Timeline

  • Contract: A full-time doctoral fellowship for an initial duration of 1 year, extendable by 3 additional years upon positive evaluation (1 + 3 years).

  • Outcome: Successful completion of the project results in a PhD degree in Health Sciences.

  • Start Date: Flexible, between August 1, 2026, and November 1, 2026.

  • Application Deadline: June 8, 2026.

  • Interview Date: Selected candidates will be invited for an on-site interview in Ghent in June 2026.
